The Workshop is About Transforming Fake Work to Real Work

This is a workshop about work. It is a workshop that explores the book, Fake Work—to better understand fake work in the context of your work and your workplace. Specifically, the workshop is about how to do work that is effective and that leads individuals and organizations to achieve results. This may seem simple, but as you’ll discover, the truth is, workplaces are plagued by fake work that is draining them of both dollars and employee morale.

Understanding the 50% that is Fake Work

When individuals, teams, and organizations focus on the work they do every day, productivity miracles begin to occur. As we began to do research, with a focus on work, we made a very important discovery – much of the hard work people do for their company has little to do with the strategies of their company. In fact, our research indicates that across all the organizations we have studied, about 50% the work that people do is not related to their company’s strategies. We call this work fake work. It may be necessary and it is often time consuming and difficult to complete, but it is not strategically important.

Real Work is Essential to Survival, So Choose Real Work

We want to see more real work being completed in companies. Real work, in our terms, is work that is critical and aligned to the key goals and strategies of a company—any company: family, school, church, non-profit company, government agency, company, or large corporation. Real work is work that is essential for a company’s short and long-term survival.

In this workshop you will discover that only you can choose to do what’s right for yourself and your company. Choose to do real work and eliminate as much fake work as you can. This workshop will start you on the path from fake work to real work.
